Area 51

What is Area 51? Area 51 is a secret military base in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of Groom Lake, is a large secretive military airfield. The base's primary purpose is to support the development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems. Although the facility has never been declared a secret base, all research, and occurrences in Area 51 are Top Secret. The area surrounding Area 51 is a vast empty desert, devoid of the population on either side for hundreds of miles. This emptiness serves to isolate the facility and enable secrecy.

The facility lies within the United States Air Force's vast Nevada Test and Training Range, formerly called "Area 51" by the U.S. Government. The area of land occupied by Area 51 is known as Groom Lake or "the strip". It was acquired by the Department of the Navy in 1955 for training purposes and transferred to USAF control in 1968.

The airspace above this region is known as R-4808N and is off-limits to civilian air traffic (unless authorized by special permit). Although most manned military flights are prohibited from entering into this airspace, unmanned military flights are allowed occasional access under experimental flight-testing circumstances only i.e.: during periods of balloon launch activities at nearby Roswell, New Mexico., since 1967. Why is Area 51 a top-secret facility?

Area 51's location is in the western portion of the United States. The nearest small town to the base is Rachel, Nevada which lies 27 miles from the base. This region of Nevada is mostly barren desert and was chosen as a site for testing because it resembles many regions where Soviet forces might conceivably be encountered. Many underground facilities around this area were created during World War 2, to provide an appropriate environment for certain types of military aircraft design and development. After WW2 ended, these facilities remained under military control and became essential to secrecy concerning research being performed at Area 51 i.e.: U-2 spyplane tests & training, etc... According to reports worldwide, UFOs or extraterrestrial craft have been spotted & reported from time to time in this region. The U-2 spyplane was tested at Area 51 on a daily basis for some years. This testing brought UFOs on a regular basis, according to reports from observers at the Groom Lake base i.e.: UFO overflights, etc...

The most astounding of these phenomena was a "flying saucer" which reportedly had crashed or landed at Roswell, New Mexico in 1947 and whose remains were shipped to Wright-Patterson AFB Ohio for study/examination of its non-terrestrial origin. As a result, a new term appeared in our language: "UFO". Why go public after so many decades? After over 40 years of secrecy concerning information about the United States' top-secret military establishment, there are many rumors circulating about our government's knowledge concerning UFOs & alien intelligence. This information is gradually leaking out in books, magazines, and newspapers throughout the world. The time has come for an official end to all secrecy concerning Area 51 and other bases like it around the United States that have reportedly been studying UFOs or extraterrestrial craft etc.

The American people should be told what their tax money has supported over these last 40 years i.e.: the reason why Area 51 was created by the United States Air Force. The public also needs to know how much money was spent to create this secret base right next door to them at Groom Lake Nevada. The public needs to know any of its trillions of dollars were not spent on classified programs that were not beneficial to the public. It is time for Area 51 to come out of the closet and join us in the 21st century.
